Long ago, in a land called Persia, there lived a kind young woman named Esther. She was raised by her cousin Mordecai, who taught her to love God and do what was right. Esther became the queen of Persia, but she kept her Jewish identity a secret.
One day, a mean man named Haman became very angry with Mordecai because Mordecai would not bow to him. Haman made a bad plan to hurt all the Jewish people. The king did not know that Esther was Jewish when he agreed to the plan.
When Mordecai heard about the danger, he asked Esther to help her people. Esther was afraid because going to the king without permission could be very dangerous. But Esther chose to be brave. She prayed and then went to the king.
The king welcomed Esther and listened to her. At a special dinner, Esther told the king about Haman’s plan and explained that it would hurt her and her people. The king was very upset and stopped the plan right away.
Because Esther was brave and trusted God, the Jewish people were saved. They celebrated with joy and thankfulness. Today, people remember Esther’s courage during the special holiday called Purim.
